Creative workshops are back!
It was great to be back running workshops after lockdown at Unit6, Barnstaple
Our popular ocean recycling workshop led on from a beach clean on Saunton Beach with a group of Outdoor Swimmers. Sarah and Jane then cleaned through all the waste to recycle cans, bottles keeping back interesting items, plastics, nets and rope. So rather than heading to landfill, sarah created boxes of found material which were then used in the two workshops,
Beach cleaners could then chose items that they could then incorporate into useful and/or decorative items with the found materials.
This is a selection of what are crafters made in just a couple of hours. It was great to be able to meet in person and talk with each other, something we had missed since lockdown, and seeing Unit6 hosting the event in a Covid Safe environment gave off a feeling of energy and hope for the future.
12th April re-opening after Lockdown
We are excited to announce that from the 12th April we will be re-opening of Creative Spaces.
- Have you spent too much time in your own home over the last year?
- Are you using the kitchen table as your creative space and fed up of clearing up each time you want to sit down for dinner?
- Are you finding that talking to the walls are not the best form of creative discussion?
Then why not take up a resident maker space where you can make all your work. We are re-opening on the 12th April and At Unit6 in Barnstaple and we have one last creative maker space available. The space measures approx. 3m x 1.5
There is a 3 shelf bookcase for all your artist books, 2 x2 plug sockets for laptops, charging devices etc,
There is a desk and lighting.
Free wifi and kitchen facilities and discount on in-house holistic treatments from Washhouse and framing facilities. You are also allocated a page on our website plus access to exhibition space.
You can access the space 24/7 so you dont need to leave if you are in the zone.
We also run an ArtClub where we have featured artists that we research and discuss to get the creative juices flowing.

International Women’s Day
March 8th was International Women’s day and two of our team celebrated by heading to the Beach for the Social Swim group with a dip on Saunton Beach. Many people like Unit6’s Jane Sharkey have taken cold water swimming in lockdown. “With so much research about the benefits of cold water swimming and an amazing beach on our doorstep, it is hard to resist a dip”. Shena Ruth Photography was there to take photos of the event.
